Short biography:

Kristof studied Mathematics at the University of Antwerp, where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in 2019. He continued at Ghent University, completing a Master’s degree in 2022 with a focus on Mathematical Physics and Astronomy.
During his studies, he carried out a ten-week internship in 2021 with the FTIR group at BIRA-IASB under the supervision of Dr. Bavo Langerock.

In 2023, he worked at the European Space Agency in Frascati, Italy (ESRIN), as a Belgian National Trainee. His work there was mainly related to the use of satellite data for air-quality studies.

Since January 2024, Kristof has been a PhD researcher at BIRA-IASB in collaboration with UCLouvain’s Earth and Life Institute (Promotor: Prof. Hugues Goosse; Co-Promotor: Dr. Emmanuel Dekemper).
His work involves the development of retrieval methods for the ALTIUS mission in its Solar Occultation mode, and his doctoral research focuses on the study of Transient Luminous Events.
