Short biography:

Sotiris Sotiriadis has a PhD in astronomy from Namur University. During his thesis, he worked under the framework of the ExtraOrDynHa project. In collaboration with geophysicists and biologists, the project focused on the formation of multi-planetary extrasolar systems and the impact of their orbital dynamics (including dissipations) on the habitability.

As a postdoctoral researcher in KU Leuven, he worked as a computer scientist at the PARAMOUR project, supervising the technical developments of a climate model configuration covering Totten glacier region. The main goal was the implementing of the coupling information between numerical codes representing different components of the climate system.

Before joining BIRA-IASB, he has been working as a Data Processing Software Engineer at an R&D company that provided scientific expertise in 1D and 3D radiative transfer modelling. He was leading one project in collaboration with ESA and he was involved in two additional projects. In these projects, the main objective was to provide a set of atmospheric (cloud and aerosol) and surface (albedo) products derived from S3A/SLSTR, SPOT-VGT and PROBA-V satellite observations. He was mainly responsible for the adaptation and the documentation of the software for the processing of these satellite images on HPC infrastructures and for the generation of climate data records. Among his tasks was to develop a parallel, GPU-based, algorithm to reduce the computational time of the inversion process.
